Tati's Progress Update #1

This photo showcases two artists of the city: the breakdancer and cinematographer. In order to put emphasis on the artists, I made the background black.

This photo showcases a street painter artist. This example also incorporates black to isolate the artist.

This last example is unedited and in progress to make the colors more vibrant. However, the same concepts are used: showcasing the photographer artist and incorporating black demonstrate emphasis with the artist.

The inspiration of my concentration is Silas Sao. Silas Sao’s style incorporates much portrait work. She is unique in that all of her subjects are candid. Sao also incorporates much texture and emphasis in each of her photos and pays close attention to the background of her subjects. I intend my work to be similar to hers in that each photo of mine shall be portraits of artists in the city in action- not posed. I hope to also use the dark tone color scheme that Silas Sao also uses in her photos. In order to play with emphasis, I may include selective b/w technique in order to isolate the artist in color and incorporate more emphasis. I may also include low poly into my portraits- possibly making half of a face in low poly. I will send updates once I complete one example of the b/w isolation and low poly.

Thank you.

  1. I really like your emphasis on your subjects and the overall dark tones . I think instead of the low poly idea it would be cool if you made like graphics that correlate with your subject. For example, if your subject is a painter you could do like paint splatters coming off of their canvas. Just an idea but you should still try out the low poly and see if you like it.
