Concentration

Rena Lee's AP Concentration

For my concentration, I am taking inspiration from Valerio D'Ospina's depictions of urban scenes and architecture in an abstract, impressionistic style. My main principle of design is perspective, because I want to create depth within my images to make them appear as though they are three dimensional. The pieces I am currently working on lack depth, so I am trying to improve in that area. D’Ospina uses shadows and highlights to create depth in his works and create a three-dimensional perspective. I am also planning on incorporating leading lines, muted color, and exaggerated proportions. I am planning on exploring different types of architecture to find what I like most, but so far I have completed an acrylic painting of the Brooklyn Bridge and started pieces depicting a Ferris wheel and the street view of Crystals at Aria shopping center. I have also started a sketch of a Gothic cathedral, which is very different from my usual clean-cut and flat style. Along with experimentation in subject, I am also trying out different mediums (acrylic, oil, watercolor, ink) to see what is best suited for my ideas. Below are images of the works/works in progress.

The actual painting is a lat lighter, I took these pictures on my phone at night.
