I like the technique; however, I feel like the orange in the right photo is kind of random. It does not seem to blend well, the left orange one does. I would suggest trying to fix that. It may be because of the lighting in the first one on the face compared to the second one.
The statue effect you are going for is very dark, so I would suggest not having such vivid colors in the photo.
