Concentration Update
I'm still working on the concentration concept of emphasis with exaggerated color and positive/negative space. I will start painting with oils, but right now I am figuring out correct placement of figures so the concept is obvious to the viewer and there is a design aspect. Once I figure out the placement I will start putting in the skin colors of the figure. An obstacle I am encountering is proportion with figures and realistic color mixing/blending with paint. The first paintings should be fairly simple, but I plan on growing with them by adding more complex backgrounds or detail. The first image is testing blending with colored pencil and placement before paint, the second is the canvas transfer of proportions for the figure, the others are rough ideas of placement of figures.

I really like these! I would say the second two pieces need to be revisited because they look a little less complete than the first. The shading isn't as graceful as the shading in the first image. Also, in the one with the hand I would keep in mind where your light source is. So far it looks a bit flat but the other two have more depth and dimension because the highlights and shadows are more dramatized.
ReplyDeleteGreat job so far Kara! I think you may need to revisit the third painting and make it a little lighter, it is a little hard to see the definition of the arm. The last painting is very nice as well. Maybe add something to it just to set it over the edge and give it that wow factor because it just looks a little too spacious on the left. Keep up the amazing art.
