Concentration Update Natalie Godinez

Recently I have just been playing with Photoshop and trying to get better but I think I found a concentration that interests me. I changed my Concentration from Surrealism to Movement. I had a really hard time coming up with concepts for Surrealism. I think that it was too vague for me to come up with ideas that I wanted to pursue. So I am changing my concentration to Movement and my principle of design will be emphasis because I am planning on playing with the opacities in my photos to put an emphasis on one part of the photo. My inspiration is Harold Edgerton who did strobe photography. Here is one of his photos that looks like what I would like to portray in my Concentration:

As you can see he photographed a moving subject and has more emphasis on the bodies in the upper right part of the photo than in the lower left part of the photo.

Here is a picture where I tried to do the same thing:

My inspiration artist did film photos with a lot of light shining on his subject so I will be changing my lighting because I  don't like how my subject is so dark. I also think I will use the studio to get some shots but I would have to figure out what types of movements can be done in that small of space. I would also like to try some pictures on film to see if it looks any better than using Photoshop to put all the different photos in and change the opacities and use masking to blend them in better.

I could really use suggestions! Anything will help!

  1. If you compare Harold's photo to yours you will see he included more multiples of his subject than you currently did. That seems to be a big part of conveying movement, so maybe do more than 4 shots of the skateboarder in the photo.

  3. I think Edgerton changed his images to black and white in order to put the emphasis on the person moving. I think you should try that with your images or at least make them more monochromatic. The different colors in you image takes away from the subject.

  4. I think you should mind the background and how it takes away from the emphasis of your subject. Also, I think you should try photographing some more dramatic movements.

  7. Much like your inspiration, you should try to put your subject closer together so that it creates more flow in your image and leads the viewers eye.
