This piece is meant to represent Alzheimer's, an incurable, impossible to prevent illness that completely destroys memory over the course of several years. It literally rots the brain, and can make people forget their own names and families. Unfortunately, this disease runs in my family, and I've lost both my great-grandmother and great-uncle (who perished my freshman year) to it. On rare occasions, those inflicted with it will have brief moments of memorization and awareness, making them wonder just what exactly is happening to them, and making them very frustrated.
This is a great depiction of the disease. I just have one question. Is the white stuff in the background smoke? If it was, it would draw more emphasis to the brain if you have the smoke coming from the brain.
ReplyDeleteThe background is just supposed to look messy and foggy. Thank you for the critique!
DeleteThis is an outstanding representation of frustration that comes with alzheimers. The emotion is truly depicted with the expression of the face.I can't wait to see how it progresses in the future! For this piece, were you looking to go for a realistic approach or a clay-like approach? Either way, the piece is amazing, however, I feel if you added more texture to the face such as wrinkles, pores, etc., the emotion would only be emphasized.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to make a combination of clay and skin for the texture, like someone who's been covered in plaster. Thank you for the critique!
