Concentration-Post 3

I was inspired to experiment with oil, water, and ink by graphic designer/videographer Ruslan Khasanov's video "Pacific Light".
I have decided to use baby oil (as seen in the below photos) because it is very cheap, thick, and clear.
I used a white paper plate filled with dyed water and I dropped baby oil onto the surface of the water very carefully, using an oral medicine syringe.
Next, I placed my ink into the oil on top of the water, forming little ink spheres within the oil.

  • Whats working...the oil and water are separated very cleanly for the most part, I like how the ink looks in the oil.
  • Whats still needs work...
    • I need to refrigerate my ink before dropping it into the oil, it should help the ink remain in spheres for longer.
    • I feel like the geometric shape theme I was doing previously (see last image below) does not mesh with the shapes in these photos.
    • I experimented a bit with making the photos look like you are seeing them first hand through a microscope.
I do plan to use more colors in future photos :) I may try some glitter too.

Looking through the microscope?

I feel like this geometric shape theme does not work with my new photos...

  1. Your new work looks like we are actually looking at an object in a microscopic view. To be completely honest, I liked your previous direction with the geometric shapes much better. Your old work was much more compelling I feel. Perhaps it's because of how the shapes seem to pop out from the liquid.
