Alex Jones-Concentration #2

I've decided to change my concentration to high key and low key photography. I feel much more comfortable with my skills in raw photography as opposed to the use of software like Adobe Photoshop. High key and low key photography will allow me to better represent who I am as a photographer and illustrator.
HIGH KEY

LOW KEY

I will be focusing primarily on inanimate objects. I will also be introducing muted colors into my images to give them an antique feel.

Spilled Ink

This image was supposed to be converted into a statue but something just was not working so I decided to convert it to breadth. Statue conversions are harder then I'd thought they'd be. So this image turned into a sort of dirty spilled ink image. I made two versions where one contains the contents of the image and the other looses the detail a little. Not sure which one looks better.

Suggestion For Courtney Kozell

I wanted to provide my own example of what I suggested to give a visual example but couldn't find a way to post an image in the comments, so I decided to make a post...
I tried replicating your image ( I just used an old image). This is what your image would look like with the screen blending mode and the painted on glow.
The red circles are where I painted. I remember you saying that you wanted more advice on how to do this (from my Girl On Fire image) and decided I'd help you out :)

This is what the same image looks like without a blending mode and just the opacity turned down. I took out the added in glows as well. Just thought I'd show the differences between the opacity change and the blending mode change on the same image.

Note: These are screenshots.

Concentration Update

Here's an update for my concentration. I've got the hang of making the diptychs now and I like how my portrait images are coming out. I played around more with long exposure and the timing for the shutter speed. The neutral density filters I got helped with keeping the exposure low, and allowed me to shoot these long exposure images in the daytime. For this image, I liked the way she came out blurred. What I need to focus on the most would be my backgrounds for my images.

Update:
I think I like the vibrant colors better in this one

Concentration Post Continued

For this updated photo, I continued to make the background less textured, I added more contrast and I added more shadows.

Concentration: Which is Better?

I've made three different versions of this. I think I want this piece to be a single image instead of multiple like my others have been so far. My principle is analogous colors. Which version do you think is strongest and what can I do to improve?

Concentration Update

I'm working on more portrait materials so I can later add the patterns in as I get inspired. I'm also working on a proposal for gobo patterns I can use in the studio instead of in photoshop.
This piece will also be animated for my general portfolio, and is a WIP as far as the pattern incorporation goes.

This piece is still in progress, but will eventually be integrated into a more angular, geometric pattern. It will be emphasized with a blue color like is being used in the highlights, but as of now I'm still working on the shapes themselves.

Concentration Update Natalie Godinez

Recently I have just been playing with Photoshop and trying to get better but I think I found a concentration that interests me. I changed my Concentration from Surrealism to Movement. I had a really hard time coming up with concepts for Surrealism. I think that it was too vague for me to come up with ideas that I wanted to pursue. So I am changing my concentration to Movement and my principle of design will be emphasis because I am planning on playing with the opacities in my photos to put an emphasis on one part of the photo. My inspiration is Harold Edgerton who did strobe photography. Here is one of his photos that looks like what I would like to portray in my Concentration:

As you can see he photographed a moving subject and has more emphasis on the bodies in the upper right part of the photo than in the lower left part of the photo.

Here is a picture where I tried to do the same thing:

My inspiration artist did film photos with a lot of light shining on his subject so I will be changing my lighting because I  don't like how my subject is so dark. I also think I will use the studio to get some shots but I would have to figure out what types of movements can be done in that small of space. I would also like to try some pictures on film to see if it looks any better than using Photoshop to put all the different photos in and change the opacities and use masking to blend them in better.

I could really use suggestions! Anything will help!

I had some help and opinions on what I should do with this picture. This is the end product. We think it's color theory cool colors, if anyone thinks it's something else, please let me know.

Concentration Update

This is one of the images I might use for my concentration. Please give feedback on how I can improve it. My principle is analogous colors.

Christopher Echeverria- Concentration

My previous concentration was based on emotions and related to people. I decided to change my concentration to a surrealistic approach with a focus of elements in a cultural sense than a scientific approach.  It will focus on the seven chakras of Buddhism and what each of them represent. Each chakra correlates to a certain body part and each body part represents a certain element of life (e.g light, energy, wisdom, snow,balance..etc.)

Concentration Update

I have changed my concentration and I'm going in a completely different direction. My subject is going to be more with people and maybe playing more with the background or keep it black and white. On my photo, I'm sketching/drawing on the picture. I'm adding and deleting different details of the pictures. The principle of design that I'm using is emphasis.
If you have any suggestions of where I should go with this, different things I could play with the background, it would really help.
Here's a few pictures I've played with.

Concentration Update

I was thinking of doing a more emotional concentration. I would have deep conditions... such as depression, anger management etc... Is this a better idea?

Anger Management

This is a work in progress...

Alex Jones-Breadth #1

Majority of my breadth images are of nature and elements like rock and metal (buildings and objects). I prefer closeup photography, but I experimented with a wide shot for my movement photo at the Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
